Marine Yogaventures
The NUS Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI), with the support of the SG Eco Fund, organised a series of four marine-themed yoga sessions aimed at promoting awareness and appreciation of Singapore’s native marine life among Singapore residents. Over four days in June, participants tried out yoga poses inspired by Singapore’s native marine creatures, while learning about our coastal habitats and how best to interact with such creatures when they are encountered. It was a family-friendly event that saw parents bonding with their young children over yoga.
Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu, who is also Advisor to Yuhua Grassroots Organisations, launched the series at Yuhua Community Centre on June 10 – just two days after World Oceans Day is commemorated worldwide on June 8. With Singapore being a City in Nature, the novel science communication effort connected with people in the heartlands to nature through this wellness activity, bringing them closer to the wildlife living in the waters that surround our island nation.
