The Marine Information
Technology laboratory (MITL) was formed to facilitate accessibility of data
and assist in the generation of value added information through
state-of-the-art technologies. MITL aims to integrate the broad
spectrum of multi-disciplinary marine data to have "meeting of minds"
between scientists of diverse backgrounds. The following two projects have enabled the development of a national marine database information system. Marine Data and Information System (MDIS) Prevention and Management of Marine Pollution in the East Asian Seas The two projects will oversee the development of an integrated national marine database using a Geographic Information System (GIS). This computer-based tool will enable scientists to readily access information on the marine environment in a user-friendly, integrated format, query the system, and download customised products.
