Biotechnology is a way of using
nature's powerful strategies to produce more effective medicines, increase
yields of higher quality crops, and perform more sensitive environmental
monitoring. Marine organisms are a particularly rich resource for
natural products. However, it is crucial that any exploitation of
marine resources be done in a manner that is sustainable and does not damage
the ecosystem. TMSI's Marine Biotechnology programme combines the
development of commercial uses for marine resources with new methods for
